Supporting Families Through the Mums & Babies Project in Mindanao
At Heritage Blinds, we believe businesses have an opportunity to make a meaningful difference beyond the communities we operate in locally. One of the ways we do this is by supporting initiatives that strengthen families and create lasting change where help is needed most.
In 2026, we are proudly partnering with Compassion Australia to support the Mums & Babies Survival Program in the town of Sibagat, located around 25 kilometres south of Butuan City in Mindanao, in the southern Philippines.
Mindanao is currently classified as a “Do Not Travel” region under the Australian Government’s Smart Traveller advisory due to ongoing political instability. While this means the project is unlikely to be visited in person, it also highlights just how important sustained support is for communities facing significant challenges.
The program focuses on supporting vulnerable mothers and young children through education, practical assistance, and faith-based encouragement — helping families build stronger and more secure futures.

Encouraging Strength and Resilience for Mothers
A recent activity, Love and Strength for Mothers of Survival, brought local mothers together for a time of encouragement and connection. Led by Administrative Pastor Rev. Mange, the session invited participants to reflect on where they find strength in their daily lives.
Many mothers shared that their resilience comes from their faith, their children, and their families. The gathering provided a safe and supportive space to discuss personal challenges while reinforcing the importance of love, responsibility, and perseverance in caring for their families.
Moments like these play an important role in empowering mothers and strengthening community bonds.

Education That Builds Confident Communities
In May 2025, mothers participating in the program attended an Electoral Education session, led by Administrative Pastor Angelito.
For many, this was their first experience learning about the importance of informed voting and ethical leadership. The session encouraged participants to consider qualities such as honesty, integrity, compassion, and responsibility when choosing leaders — values that also translate into leadership within families and communities.
The program continues to help participants grow not only as parents, but as confident and engaged members of society.

Practical Skills That Support Families
Alongside education and community support, the program also provides opportunities for mothers to develop practical skills that can help generate income.
During a recent pillowcase-making workshop held at the Centre, participating mothers learned skills they can use from home to contribute financially to their households. Despite some families being unable to attend due to illness, those present expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn new skills while also receiving ongoing encouragement and support.
These initiatives help create greater independence while improving family wellbeing.
Creating Long-Term Impact
The Mums & Babies Program operates alongside the Agak Child Development Centre in Sibagat, which currently supports 244 children through the Compassion Child Development Sponsorship Program, as well as 15 mothers and babies through this specialised survival initiative.
Despite operating in a challenging environment, the local church has served the community since 1958, with the Compassion program active since 2008.
At Heritage Blinds, we are proud to play a small part in supporting programs that invest in families, strengthen communities, and create hope for future generations.
