Frequently asked questions
What is an auto-lock arm awning?
An auto-lock arm awning is an external window or door covering that has a spring-loaded top roller and guide rails with projecting arms.
How does an auto-lock arm awning work?
Operated by hand from outside, Auto Lock Awnings are raised and lowered by manually sliding the arms up and down these rails. Once the arms reach a 90⁰ position, it will automatically lock into place.
Which fabric is best for an auto-lock arm awning?
At Heritage Shutters & Blinds, our auto-lock arm awnings are available in three fabrics, each of which offers its own advantages:
Canvas auto-lock arm awnings
Canvas awnings are highly effective at blocking all UV rays, shielding your flooring, furniture and fixtures from sun damage and helping to improve insulation.
Acrylic auto-lock arm awnings
Resistant to sun, moisture, and mildew, acrylic awnings provide privacy without eliminating natural light or airflow. Plus, the vertical cell design offers extra strength as there are no knots or joins in the centre of the material.
Sunscreen auto-lock arm awnings
Sunscreen awnings consist of nylon-coated polyester yarn that has been treated to be UV and weather resistant. This waterproof material is particularly suited to patios, carports and pergolas.

Is an auto-lock arm awning safe in high winds?
Designed to automatically retract in high winds, auto-lock arm awnings are built to last years in harsh climates. That said, to avoid the risk of unnecessary damage and maximise longevity, we always recommend rolling up and securing your awning if high winds or extreme weather conditions are expected.
How do you clean auto-lock arm awnings?
To clean your auto-lock awning, simply wipe the fabric gently with a mix of water and mild soap.
